1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, tablet or phone) when you visit a website. It lets the site remember certain things about your visit — language preferences, sign-in session, consent choices — so your next visits are consistent.
Cookies contain no viruses and cannot run programs. They are read only by the service that issued them or, in some cases, by third-party services expressly identified in this policy.
Under the Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information (Law 25, Quebec), your explicit consent is required before any non-essential cookie is placed on your device.
2. Legal basis for consent (Law 25, s. 8)
Under Law 25, placing any cookie that is not strictly necessary to run the site requires consent that is free, informed, prior and specific. That consent:
- Cannot be obtained through a pre-checked box or by simply continuing to browse.
- Must let you accept or refuse each category of non-essential cookies separately.
- Can be withdrawn at any time, easily and free of charge.

Audience measurement — no cookies, refusable
Our audience measurement sets no cookie at all, which is why it appears in no table on this page, and the prior-consent requirement — which targets the storing and reading of information on your device — does not apply to it. It is on by default and you can refuse it at any time, from our banner or with the button at the bottom of this page. It relies on two tools:
- Our own tool, hosted with the site. Your IP address is never stored as such: it is turned into an irreversible fingerprint using a salt renewed every day, so a day's visits can be counted without ever tracking you from one day to the next. From the referrer, only the domain name is kept.
- Vercel Web Analytics (Vercel Inc., United States), an aggregated measurement with no cookie and no persistent identifier.
Note on international transfers: Vercel Inc. hosts the site and processes these measurements from the United States. That transfer is governed by standard contractual clauses. For more, see our privacy policy.
